Museum Pictures of the title collage: Gabriel Schachinger, Ludwig II as grand master of the Bavarian order of knights with the Sword of Christopher, 1887, oil on canvas, Bayerische Schlösserverwaltung. Neuschwanstein with Alpsee and silhouette of Schlick, photo, Kienberg GmbH Lechbruck

Neuschwanstein may be described as the enraptured climax of Ludwig II's cultural creations - a "temple" of his worship of the Holy Grail and Wagner's opera world. The tetralogy "Der Ring des Nibelungen", Wagner's main work, Lohengrin, Parsifal, Tannhäuser and Tristan and Isolde are brought to life in the wall paintings and in the historical reference recordings on the CD; Wagner-interpretations which can still be attributed to the composer himself.
